A car wash company in the United Kingdom has spent more than $50-million on advertising to attract customers to its stores and, in some cases, to boost its stock price.
The Car Wash Group said it spent $55.8-million in 2014, $30.4-million this year, and $17.4 million in 2015, all for its advertising campaign.
It said it is not the first car wash to invest heavily in advertising and is not alone.
A handful of other companies have also spent huge sums on advertising campaigns.
In a recent article in The Wall Street Journal, a senior Car Wash executive said the company has made about $25 million on advertising, which it uses to drive traffic to its store.
The Car Care Group, which owns more than 100 car care shops, said it had spent $11.3-million since 2007.
The company said it has spent about $8.5-million for its ads this year.
More than 40 million customers use its services each year, it said.
In January, Car Care said it would cut its advertising budget by about $4.5 million in an effort to trim costs.
