Denton, Texas — “If you want a duck, go to the ducky,” said Mike Ducky, the owner of Ducky’s Car Wash in Denton.
“They’re like the best in the world.”
Ducky’s is the first duck-themed car wash in the state.
Duckys is the name of a popular local brand of dry cleaning detergent, and Duckys’ Car Wash is the brand’s latest endeavor.
Duckies is a popular name for dry cleaning products, but it also has a colorful history.
The company was started by John Duckys in 1955 in San Francisco.
He had his own company, Duckys Auto Cleaning, which was later acquired by DuPont.
In the late 1950s, he and his son, Mike Duckys, started the company that became Duckys and Co. Mike Duckys worked for DuPont, which merged with Dow Chemical in 1961.
The two companies merged in 1969.
DuPont’s goal at the time was to create a cleaner, cleaner environment for its products, Ducky said.
But Duckys was concerned about the environment and the environmental impact of the chemical products that were being made, so he started Duckys Automotive to make cleaning products with environmentally friendly properties.
So he and the Duckys brothers moved to Denton in 1972.
The Denton Duckys Car Wash has a new owner, Denton-based Duckys Co.
